Приветствие на английском является неотъемлемой частью общения. Мы не будем рассматривать банальные «hello» и «bye», думаю, вы справитесь с этими выражениями сами.
В качестве приветствия вы можете услышать следующие выражения:
- How are you?
- How are you doing?
- How is everything?
- How’s everything going?
- How have you been keeping?
- What’s up?
- How are things (with you)?
- How’s it going?
- How’s life been treating you?
- I trust that everything is well. — Я верю, что у тебя все в пордяке.
- Good to see you. — Рад видеть тебя.
Все выражения со знаками вопросов можно перевести примерно одинаково: «Как дела?». Англоговорящие культуры очень отзывчивы и вы можете услышать подобные вопросы на улице от абсолютно незнакомого человека.
И нет необходимости паниковать, если вы поняли не все слова, которые были произнесены. Старайтесь уловить общий смысл. Однако не стесняйтесь переспросить собеседника, если вы не поняли:
- Can you speak more slowly, please I don’t understand?
- Pardon?
- Sorry, what was that you just said?
- I’m sorry would you mind repeating that, please?
- I’m sorry; I don’t fully understand what you have just said, what do you mean.

Вот пример диалога с незнакомым человеком, постарайтесь уловить смысл пробежав глазами, не подсматривая в словари:
- Hello, you look lost. Can I be of assistance?
- А: Oh, thanks. You’re right, I am lost. I’m looking for the nearest store?
- В: You’re close; it’s just across the lawn. It’s the three story brick building over there.
- A: I see, well thanks a lot. You’ve been a big help.
- B: Excuse me for saying so, but you’re not from around here, are you? Are you British or what?
- A: Actually I’m Russian. I’m a new transfer student. You’re an American, I assume?
- B: Yes, by the way I’m Bonno, Bonno Jones.
- A: I’m Olga. Pleased to meet you.
- B: So how long have you been in the States, Olga?
- A: I’ve been here about three weeks now. So, what’s your major Bonno?
- B: I’m a pre-med student. What’s yours?
- A: I’m not sure yet, but I’m kind of interested in sociology.
- B: So, do you live in the dorm?
- A: Actually no, I have a small apartment about five blocks from here. Well, I have to run. Thanks for your help. Maybe we’ll bump into each other again sometime.
- B: Could be, it’s a pretty small campus. Nice to meet you, Olga. See you later.
- A: So long.
